Life's Experiences
Through our lives we all experience pleasure and pain. Physical pain and emotional pain: unrequited love; the breakdown of relationships; hurt egos. At these times we may blame God and wonder why He puts us through this.
Out time on earth is like a microcosm of the universe. The forces that make up the universe can be experienced on earth in small doses. For example, when a star gets pulled into a black hole and is destroyed, the forces are immense. Our existence here gives us the opportunity to understand these forces.
I've mentioned before how God is One. Everything is God. He is infinite. Everything
and every person is an attribute of God but although He is One, He has an infinite
number of attributes. Our understanding of experiences is God revealing Himself
to Himself. Because He is infinite and we are finite we can never truly understand
Him. The finite can never understand the infinite, but we can understand aspects
of the infinite through his creation. As we evolve we travel on what
Ibn
‘Arabi called ‘The Journey to the Lord of Power’.
There are estimated to be around 125 billion (125,000, 000, 000) galaxies in the universe. Each galaxy varies in size but the Milky Way (our own galaxy) is estimated to contain around 100 billion (100,000,000,000) stars. It’s been said that if you take a pin, dip it into the ocean and take it out, the water that remains on the pin compared to the ocean is like the whole universe as compared to God. It is insignificant. This is what is meant by the infinite. But each drop of this ocean is a microcosm of the ocean, which is why in the Bible it says that Man was created in the image of God. It does not mean a physical image (God has no form), but that the creative essence that is God exists within us. In fact we can see this as we create worlds in miniature when we dream.
Our experiences are part of our evolution. Don't lament that life doesn't work
out how you want but hope that in retrospect you may come to a better understanding
of the experiences. Learn to observe your own life in the same way as you observe
other people.
The Universe cannot contain Me, but I am contained within the heart of My faithful servants
