Martin Luther King had a dream
In his now famous speech that he delivered on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963, Dr King talked about his dream of equality. He said, in part:
"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character."
Many people have remarked that his dream has not come about due to racism and prejudice.
Racism and prejudice are words often bandied about, and the assumption is that racism and prejudice are anti-black (or a minority group). In fact, many people who shout the loudest about perceived prejudice in others can be the most prejudiced themselves. I remember a conversation with a lady who would have been horrified to think of herself as prejudiced who, within a ten-minute conversation: accused all Italian women of being stupid for listening to the Pope; South American women for the same reason (she wasn't fussy about which South American country), and all Middle-Eastern men of being wife-bashers. I've heard many Left Wing 'enlightened' people lump all men who wear suits as being responsible for everything from global warming to the lack or public transport, whilst at the same time criticising people who judge others on their appearance.
What brought this thought about was that I was visiting a client in the Brisbane CBD and across the road on a spare patch of ground were a group of Aboriginal people, all with bottles, shouting and quite obviously drunk. My client made a derisory remark that could have been perceived as racist. I think the comment was something like "Look at those people carrying on. The police won't do anything about it". However, going back to the speech of Martin Luther King, wasn't she judging 'these people' by the content of their character? Would it be possible to criticise a group of Aboriginal people and NOT be accused of racism, however it was put?
The truth is that much of what King dreamt of hasn't been achieved because the political correct lobby uses guilt as a weapon to influence the views of people for their own ulterior motives. What King dreamt of was equality. What the political correct movement wants is different treatment for people according to their race.
More on this later.
