On Men and Women

I've mentioned before about being in someone else's shoes. Well, what if you could be not just in their shoes but inside their head, what do you suppose it would be like? Most socialists suppose that everyone is pretty well the same. The Christian idiom 'Do unto others as you would be done to yourself' in a way pre-supposes this. In reality, although we all live in the same world we perceive it in very different ways. People in different cultures within a society are as different as people in different countries are.

Men often think that women live on different planets but they would be amazed at what goes on in their wife's head and vica-verca. Social workers would be shocked at what their clients are really thinking. And so on.

We all have basic assumptions that we live our lives by and other people have different assumptions. But this is only one factor in what makes us so different. Some of us work on an intellectual level, others are more emotional and others work instinctively. Women generally don't have a centre of consciousness in the way that men do. Women, particularly when young, are more like a cloud of consciousness than a point. Traditionally they have based their consciousness around their husband but to even mention this would not be considered politically correct. Nowadays women build their centre of attention around something - a job, a cause, fashion - in the same way as a crystal forms around a grain of dust in a solution.

This is not a comment on intelligence, understanding or maturity. It is, simply, how it is.
